Germany, Wehrmacht. A Walther P38 Holster, Reissued to RCAF

(Pistolentasche). An extremely well-preserved Walther P38 holster, constructed of multiple pieces of heavy black leather. It is topped by a lid from which an integral strap emanates and meets a magnetic metal buckle set into the side of the shell for secure closure. A pocket set into the side accommodates a spare ammunition clip, which is included and is constructed of a magnetic metal casing with a functional interior spring. Stitched onto the reverse are two loops for attachment to a belt. Embossed onto the shell just above the left loop is a maker’s mark of “DKK” indicating manufacture by Friedrich Offermann & Söhne, Bensburg, with a date of “42”. To the left of the maker’s mark is a Waffenamt code. Completing the exterior features is an additional narrow black leather strap which protrudes through the front of the shell and continues inside where it is stitched to the side wall to fasten over the accompanying pistol for storage. Stamped onto the lid is a name of “GD PORRITT”, along with a serial number and inscription of “RCAF” (the “F” backwards”), indicating a Royal Canadian Air Force serviceman who retrieved the item from occupied Germany. The holster measures approximately 16 cm (w) x 26 cm (h). Demonstrating only minor, age-appropriate material fatigue, this veteran-retrieved example is in an extremely fine condition.
