WWII Awards of the Commanding Officer; Lincoln & Welland Regiment - British War Medal (CAPT. R.W. FORDHAM.); Victory Medal with MID oak leaf (CAPT. R.W. FORDHAM); Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal (CAPT. R.S.W. FORDHAM LINC. & WELLD. REGT.); Service Medal of the Order of St. John; and Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem, Cross of Merit and Honour, Officer (large rosette on the ribbon). Naming is officially impressed on the BWM, VM and CAFLSM and officially engraved on the ED. Mounted to a suspension with swing bar pinback, as worn by the veteran, original ribbons, light contact, extremely fine. (C:17)   Footnote: Reginald Walter S. Fordham was born on May 9, 1897 in London, England. He was a resident of Niagara Falls, Ontario, when he signed his CEF Officer's Declaration Paper as a Lieutenant with the 98th Infantry Battalion "Lincoln and Welland Battalion", on December 1, 1915, in Welland, Ontario, at the age of 18, naming his next-of-kin as his father, Mr. S.G. Fordham on Niagara Falls, stating that he had one years' previous military service with the 44th Lincoln and Welland Regiment and that his profession was that of Student. The Battalion was raised in the Lincoln and Welland Counties of Ontario with mobilization headquarters at Welland under the authority of G.O. 151, December 22, 1915. The Battalion sailed July 16, 1916 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel H.A. Rose with a strength of 36 officers and 1,050 other ranks. In England, the Battalion was absorbed into the 12th Reserve Battalion. By the end of the conflict, he had been promoted to the rank of Captain. He continued his service after the war with the Lincoln and Welland Regiment and was awarded the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal, as mentioned in the London Gazette on January 20, 1930. He was later promoted to Major and awarded the Efficiency Decoration, GRV with CANADA suspension bar. Upon the outbreak of the Second World War, and now a Lieutenant-Colonel, Fordham was Commanding Officer of the Lincoln and Welland Regiment, from September 1, 1939, ordered to mobilize the Lincoln and Welland Regiment and place it on Active Service. He remained in that position until June 24, 1940.  (C:17)
