A rounded medal constructed of nickel, with an engraved obverse inscription that stands LA REPUBLICA MEXICANA A SUS VALIENTES HIJOS (The Mexican Republic to its Brave Sons), encircled by a laurel wreath, reverse inscribed DEFENDIENDO A LA CIUDAD DE PUEBLA CONTRIBUYO AL GLORIOSO TRIUNFO CONTRA EL EJERCITO FRANCES EL 5 DE MAYO DE 1862 (Defending the City of Puebla, Helping to the Glorious Triumph Achieved at Puebla against French Army on 5th May, 1862), measuring 25.37 mm (w) x 30.13 mm (h - inclusive integral ring), with wear on the reverse and toned metal, fair.
Footnote: The Medal for Defending the City of Puebla was authorized by the Mexican government in 1862, in recognition of the Officers and men who defended the city of Puebla from an invading French army on May 5, 1862. The battle ended in a victory for the Mexican Army over the occupying French soldiers.
