An unofficial miniature Eagle in toned silver gilt, presenting a small eagle with outstretched wings, the head is enamelled in white with a zigzag gilt pattern on the neck, a rounded head with black eye and curved beak, the tail is also in white enamel with five distinct tail feathers, across the middle of the tail sits a green enamelled laurel branch touching the edge of the wings, encircling the eagle’s head is a green enamelled wreath, the center medallion in silver gilt with remnants of blue enamel featuring the figure of Cincinnatus with a plow, the reverse medallion features Cincinnatus receiving a sword from three senators with a thinly blue enamelled sky, measures 9.93mm (w) x 17.05mm (h – inclusive of integral ring), weighs 2.0 grams (including ribbon), suspended from a thin blue and white ribbon via a French spiral suspension ring, enamel thin and mostly missing from both medallions, medallions do not present inscriptions, is in near very fine condition.
The modern miniature was based upon the L’Enfant standard eagle of 1902 and measures 15mm x 20mm. The miniature presented here is even smaller, measuring approximately 10mm x 17mm, possible by omitting the inscription on the medallions.
