Members must be a U.S. citizen or national with an honorable discharge from the U.S. military, or currently serving in the United States Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force or Coast Guard and are required to have had military service overseas during an operation or conflict. The United Spanish War Veterans (USWV) was an American veterans organization which consisted of veterans of the Spanish-American War, Philippine Insurrection and China Relief Expedition. The Military Order of the Serpent (MOS) was a sub-group of the United Spanish War Veterans. In order to be a member of the MOS, one had to be in good standing in the USWV, to promote camaraderie and fraternal fellowship amongst the members of the veterans of the Spanish American War.
