WWII Purple Heart to Private William Brewer; Army Air Force POW -  Description: Bronze gilt and enamels, engraved "WILLIAM T. Brewer" in capitals on the reverse, 34.5 mm x 43 mm, original ribbon with brooch pinback, extremely fine. Accompanied by its Ribbon Bar (10 mm x 35.5 mm, pinback) and enameled Ribbon Bar (3.7 mm x 17 mm, buttonhole attachment), in its hardshelled case of issue, case marked "PURPLE HEART" on the lid, scuffed and wrinkled lid, case very fine.   Footnote: 14038538 Private William T. Brewer was living in Florida when he enlisted with the Army Air Force. He saw action in the Pacific theatre with the Coast Artillery Corps, 60th Coast Artillery (Anti-Aircraft) and was stationed at Ft. Mills Corregidor, Philippine Islands under the Philippine Coast Artillery Command. The forces there surrendered to Japanese forces on May 6, 1942, with Brewer becoming a Prisoner of War. It was almost thirty months later before Brewer would be liberated, released from Osaka Main Camp Chikko in Osaka, Japan on October 29, 1945.
