Footnote: The New Jersey Spanish American War Veterans Cross was authorized by a Joint Resolution of the New Jersey Legislature, Number 2 in 1899. It was awarded to members of the New Jersey volunteer units, the State of New Jersey providing about 4,700 men in four infantry regiments. Additional statues were passed in 1900, expanding the award criteria, to include any veteran from New Jersey who had served during the Spanish American War.
