A bronze round medal with an oxidized and relieved finish, the obverse depicts a colour guard of one flag beared accompanied by two soldiers bearing rifles, marching toward the left of the medal, around the edge of the medal are the words “PHILIPPINE INSURRECTION 1899,” the reverse bears the inscription “FOR PATRIOTISM FORTITUDE AND LOYALTY” surrounded by a wreath of pine branches on the left and palms on the right, tied at the bottom with a bow, officially numbered (impressed) “No.10020” on outer edge, medal measures 32.91 mm in diameter (1.29 inches), on loop for suspension from period original ultramarine blue ribbon edged with stripes of red and white with brooch pinback, accompanied by its 36 mm (w) x 9 mm (h) ribbon bar and its 15 mm (w) x 3 mm (h) enameled ribbon bar (stamped "BBB Co. Phila."). In extremely fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
