Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) Medal 1960 (two-piece construction, OMSA insignia in bronze gilt with light blue and navy blue enamels, affixed to a base via a screwback, the base in bronze gilt with the obverse illustrating a spread-winged eagle, the reverse engraved "ALBERT GOODWIN" within an opened-ended wreath of laurel leaves, marked with a copyright "c" above "CL MED." and national fabrication marked "ITALY" below the wreath, measuring 32 mm (w) x 42.7 mm (h) inclusive of integral ring, one clasp dated "1960" on its original ribbon, suspended from a pinback hanger inscribed "ORDER AND MEDALS SOCIETY OF AMERICA", scattered gilt wear); Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) 2nd Annual Convention Identification Tag 1961 (in brass, impressed "1961 2nd ANNUAL OMSA CONVENTION LA GRANGE, ILLINOIS NO. 324" on the obverse, measuring 32.5 mm (w) x 44 mm (h), with drill hole at the top for suspension); and Midwestern Orders and Medals Society (MIDOMS) Distinguished Service Medal (in bronze gilt with blue enamels, engraved "DR. ALBERT GOODWIN / CHAIRMAN / FIRST O.M.S.A. CONVENTION" and maker marked "BLACKINTON" on the reverse, measuring 34.8 mm (w) x 43.7 mm (h) inclusive of its integral ring, two clasps inscribed "DISTINGUISHED" and "SERVICE" on its original ribbon, suspended from a pinback hanger inscribed "MIDOMS", in its case of issue, maker marked "V.H. Blackinton & Co., Inc. ATTLEBORO FALLS, MASS." on its clear plastic lid). Near extremely fine.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
