Two-piece construction, in bronze gilt with red, white, purple and green enamels, number impressed "434362" on the edge, measuring 34.5 mm (w) x 43.5 mm (h), original ribbon with brooch pinback, intact enamels, very light contact, near extremely fine. Accompanied by an original Notice from Headquarters 300th General Hospital, A.P.O. 378, U.S. Army (dated May 24, 1944, stating that Cousin was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds sustained on May 6, 1944, typewritten in black, on an off-white paper stock, measuring 202 mm (w) x 264 mm (h), fold marks).

Footnote: Jacob Alphonse Cousin was born on March 21, 1909 in Louisiana. He entered service with the United States Army as a Private (36008929) at Memphis, Tennessee. Upon completion of his training, he embarked for European service, arriving in the Italian theater. Private (Specialist 2nd Class) Jacob A. Cousin, 938 Field Artillery, Service Battery was wounded in action in Italy, on May 6, 1944, earning him the Purple Heart. He died on October 26, 1958, at the age of 49 and is buried at Saint Mary Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum in Evergreen Park, Cook County, Illinois.
