In green-brown wool, this 39R sized tunic is attributed to Staff Sergeant George W. Schuster, of the Ranger Division. The shoulders are adorned with shoulder straps secured in place a brass button illustrating the United States Coat of Arms with the reverse marked “SCOVILL MF’G CO WATERBURY BUTTON CO.” The collar presents a brass disk on each side, the left presenting a “U.S” disk with a screwback reverse and on the right, a USAAF Infantry disk with a screwback reverse. The front presents four total pockets, one on each breast and a larger pocket at the waist of each side, a flap closes each pocket with a reinforced button hole and brass button marked “SCOVILL MF’G CO WATERBURY” on the reverse, the pocks are lined with a moss green rayon-cotton blend. The left side of the breast presents insignia including a silver and enamel Combat Infantry Badge, with two pinch pins on the reverse, measuring 76.6mm (w) x 25.5mm (h), with a ribbon bar presenting a Good Conduct, American Defense, and a European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign with two bronze star devices, measures 101.50mm (w) x 11.15mm (h), a single horizontal pin on reverse, with an expert marksmanship badge with a RIFLE bar, in silver, reverse marked STERLING KREW, measures 28.25mm (w) x 40.50mm (h), dark patina, in very fine condition. The right side of the breast presents an Honorable Discharge Emblem lozenge in yellow embroidery on a diamond-shaped olive green rayon base. The front has a vertical row of three brass buttons (bottom button removed from tunic, but kept in pocket), the buttons are marked SCOVILL MF’G CO. WATERBURY on the reverse, facing four reinforced buttonholes on the left side. The left shoulder is emblazoned with a post-war RANGERS lozenge patch in bright blue and yellow embroidery, with a staff sergeant rank insignia directly below with olive green embroidery on black felt, both in extremely fine condition. The right shoulder presents the same staff sergeant rank insignia, in extremely fine condition. The rear of the tunic is pleated on either side and is single vented. The interior is lined around the collar, which has been inscribed F-8509 in black ink, the bodice has three handstitched elastic bands horizontally across the upper, mid and lower back to ensure a snug fit, the interior of the right pocket is double stamped [3-44157]. The tunic measures 475mm across the shoulders and 790mm in length. The stitching of the RANGERS patch glows under blacklight indicating it is not period authentic, one small moth hole is present on the right shoulder strap, near the button, the last button is missing from the obverse, but is included in the pocket, virtually no wear, in extremely fine condition.
