        A US Mountain Division Winter Cap; 1st Special Service Force - This version of winter cap was used by both the US Mountain Divisions and the 1st Special Service Force; This side cap has a durable, thick khaki cotton upper, with fold down panels, a strap and buckle closure at the front, resting upon a peak, the peak featuring seven rows of reinforced stitching. When the panels are dropped down, the cap not only covers the top of the head but forms a hood, to cover the entire head, with only the facial area visible and secured under the chin via the aforementioned strap and buckle. It is stamped in black ink on the right side "W1830". The underside of the cap and peak is lined in brownish-green wool, the inside featuring a 38 mm wide durable sweatband, marked in black handwritten ink "32171297" on the sweatband on both the left and right sides of the cap, size stamped "7-1/8" on the left side and marked "7" in black handwritten ink on the right side. It measures 190 mm x 305 mm when closed and 285 mm x 305 mm when fully extended, exhibiting light wear, soiling throughout especially on the sweatband, heavy reinforced stitching, quality workmanship. Better than very fine.
