Footnote: James E. Hagler (AO3026286) was acknowledged as having been promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant in the May 16, 1957 edition of the Congressional Record-Senate. In the rank of Captain, Hagler was a member of the personnel of the 9th Troop Carrier Squadron of the 63rd Troop Carrier Wing (Heavy) flying one of two Globemasters on a 1500-mile mission. This was the first aerial resupply mission of Deep Freeze 61, flown to South Pole on October 31, 1959, the first of 88 missions scheduled, the two aircraft arriving with 1,000 pounds of mail and nearly 25 tons of drummed fuel. Hagler later achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
