United States. An Army Artillery Side Cap, c. 1943
A United States Army Artillery Personnel side cap, constructed of olive-grab wool twill. The cap features dual fold-down side panels which overlap at the front. The panels are fully trimmed with crimson-red piping. The interior bears a tan-coloured cotton sweatband fully lining the circumference, securely held in place by two rows of machine stitching. A white cotton label on the right of the interior bears a partially-legible inscription indicating that the cap was distributed by the Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot, was manufactured in 1943, and is a size “7”. The cap measures approximately 278 mm (l) x 130 mm (h). Significant mothing is evident to the exterior, and the cap is in a near very fine condition.
