United States. An Army Infantry Side Cap, c.1943
This is a very well-preserved Second War Army Infantry Personnel side cap, constructed of tan-coloured cotton twill. The cap features dual fold-down side panels which overlap at the front. The panels are fully trimmed with light blue piping. The interior of the cap features a sweatband in the form of an additonal layer of tan-coloured cotton, securely held in place by two rows of machine stitching. The sweatband is is inscribed with “C-3916” in black ink, while the opposite side features an illegible black ink number, and a size stamp of “7”. The cap is otherwise unmarked and measures 272 mm (l) x 147 mm (h). Minor soiling is evident to the exterior, but it is in an otherwise better than very fine condition.
