1) A Stetson campaign hat constructed of olive green felt, presents a wide circular brim and four pinched peaks on the crown, shows a green coloured ribbon band above the brim in addition to brown and golden yellow hat cords ended with acorns constructed of golden wire, the peak contains four eyelets, a brown leather chin strap attaches to metal brackets hanging from leather straps on either side of the sweatband, the brown leather sweatband is marked “CAPT. GOODWIN” and shows his service number “O-297185,” maker mark for John B. Stetson Company, measures approximately 320 mm (w) x 357 mm (l) x 140 mm (h), and in extremely fine condition.
2) A First World War US Army officer’s tropical pith helmet constructed of lightweight compressed fibre material, the front crown presents a gilded eagle cap badge, the crown features five eyelets for ventilation on each side, a brown leather chin strap attaches to the hard leather sweatband, “A.F. GOODWIN 0-297185” printed in ink on underside of brim, which is lined in a green fabric, maker mark stamped on inside of crown “HAWLEY TROPPER ST. CHARLES 1609,” measures approximately 290 mm (w) x 350 mm (l) x 150 mm (h), moderate soiling over exterior, and in fine condition.
3) A US Army visor cap constructed of khaki drab wool top with woven olive green centreband and brown leather visor, a gilded cap badge rests above the centreband, over the visor rests a brown leather chinstrap complete with brass buttons showing the eagle insignia, the interior is fully lined with a round sweat shield in place and presents a complete tan leather sweatband, maker mark stamped on inside, stamped with manufacture code “878657,” size 7 ¼, side of sweatband stamped “The Comfort Cap,” measures 248 mm (w) x 275 mm (l) x 140 mm (h), minor soiling on wool exterior, and in extremely fine condition.
4) A fatigue wear hat constructed of olive drab, a soft round hat with stiff brim in herringbone pattern cloth, four eyelets for ventilation on each side of the crown, maker tag on interior for “King Kard Overall Co.,” size 7 ¼, measures approximately 260 mm (w) x 310 mm (l) x 180 mm (h), and in extremely fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
