United States. A Set of US Army Air Forces B-8 Goggles, by Polaroid
A well-preserved set of US Army Air Forces B-8 goggles, constructed of a malleable black rubber frame. The interior of the casing is fully lined with a strip of tan-coloured suede to mitigate skin irritation. A shatter-proof, single-piece, transparent orange celluloid lens forms the eyepiece. The goggles retain a woven strap emanating from each side, adjusted with a functional non-ferrous metal buckle, for secure wear. The exterior of the frame bears a raised maker’s mark of “POLAROID”, as well as an inscription of “FLYING GOGGLE A.A.F. TYPE B-8”. They measure 185 mm (w) x 95 mm (h). Some scratching is evident to the lens, with minor material fatigue of the rubber, but the goggles are in an overall near extremely fine condition.
