United States. An Army Service Cap for General Officers, Captain O.E. Dinnis, by Block's, c.1945

Fabricated from a brownish-green felt on the exterior, featuring the classic high peak. There are dual brownish-green-finished metal eyelets for ventilation placed on either side on the overhang. It has a 45 mm wide band in caramel brown embroidery around its circumference. There is an 64 mm (w) x 70 mm (h) United States Army officer's cap eagle insignia in bronze gilt on the front, the cap badge bearing the Army Great Seal eagle insignia and is affixed to the cap via a screwback that is secured on the inside of the cap. The stiff visor is finished in a smooth cinnamon brown leather on the upper, with a strap in cinnamon brown synthetic material with dual adjustable sliders matching the strap, running across the front between the brass buttons on either side, each of the buttons bearing the Army Great Seal eagle insignia. Connected to the buttons is two-piece strap in cinnamon brown synthetic material with a metal buckle and matching slider that wraps around to the rear of the cap. The underside of the visor is in a very dark brown synthetic material, the underlying stiff framework on the sidewalls wrapped in a champagne-colored nylon. It incorporates a 43 mm wide sweatband in leather, the upper with a smooth cinnamon brown finish, the ends of which are stitched together and finished with a cinnamon brown ribbon at the rear and is stamped "Genuine Fur Felt" on the left side. A protective pad in pressed fabric is placed under the sweatband, butting the visor, to protect the wearer's forehead. The dome is lined in a champagne-colored nylon and incorporates a orange moisture shield, covering the "Block's Indianapolis" manufacturer's insignia. Attached to the dome is a plastic sleeve with an owner's Identification Card, the card inscribed in black ink "O. E. Dinnis / Purchasing and Contracting Office / Camp Attenbury, Indiana / Captain / Army of the United States". The cap measures 257 mm in width x 290 mm in depth x 120 mm in height, exhibiting scattered mothing in the felt on the underside at the rear and right side, and at the top near the front, the buckle at the rear with greening present, the brass buttons on the side with slight discoloration, the protective pad in pressed fabric under the sweatband loose, the sweatband experiencing separation in the stitching at the left front. It is of very fine quality manufacture, displaying a wonderful texture in the felt, along with quality workmanship. Fine.
