United States. An Army Service Cap for General Officers, Initialed, by Roos Bros, c.1945

Fabricated from an olive green wool on the exterior, featuring the classic high peak, the black-finished metal strip frame giving definition to the shape of the cap. There are dual tawny brown-finished metal eyelets for ventilation placed on either side on the overhang. It has a 38 mm wide band in olive green embroidery around its circumference. There is an 60 mm (w) x 60.5 mm (h) United States Army officer's cap eagle insignia in bronze gilt on the front, the cap badge bearing the Army Great Seal eagle insignia and is affixed to the cap via a screwback that is secured on the inside of the cap. The stiff visor is finished in a smooth cinnamon brown leather on the upper, with a strap in cinnamon brown synthetic material with dual adjustable sliders matching the strap, running across the front between the brass buttons on either side, each of the buttons bearing the Army Great Seal eagle insignia. The underside of the visor is in a dark forest green synthetic material, the underlying stiff light brown thatched framework exposed on the sidewalls, the upper portion of which is lined in a light yellow nylon. It incorporates a 45 mm wide sweatband in leather, the upper with a smooth cinnamon brown finish and exhibiting a repeating voided pattern around the circumference, the ends of which are stitched together and finished with a bronze-colored ribbon, marked in black ink with the initials "S.L.C." on the right side. Also, there is a "7⅛" size tag and a Union Made Workers tag numbered "4985637" on the left side near the front. The dome is lined in a light yellow nylon and incorporates a diamond-shaped moisture shield, covering the "Roos Bros Inc." manufacturer's insignia. The cap measures 270 mm in width x 280 mm in depth x 105 mm in height, exhibiting scattered greening on the cap badge, with light discoloration present sweatband, along with prominent soiling on the light yellow lining in the dome in and around the moisture shield, however, it is free of mothing and interruptions in the fabrics. It is of very fine quality manufacture, displaying a wonderful texture in the wool, along with quality workmanship. Very fine.
