United States. An M1905 Bayonet, by the Springfield Armory
This sword features a 250 mm long steel blade, exhibiting a nice gray finish, magnetic, with a very sharp edge and a very sharp tip, along with a wide spine, the fuller running the full length of the blade. It is marked "S A" (Springfield Armory) above a flaming bomb insignia and marked "1907" below on the obverse ricasso, the reverse ricasso marked "US" above "203597", measuring 367 mm in length. The blade is embedded into the heavy steel crossguard that is designed with a ring at one end for placement upon the barrel of a rifle, the other end with a wide rounded quillon. The handle has black ribbed synthetic plates embedded onto either side of the handle to form the grip and are held in place by a large screw, the scabbard release button just below the crossguard functional, the steel pommel designed with a flare end and housing the mortise to receive the rifle, the bayonet measuring 367 mm in length. The scabbard has a two-piece construction, composed of a cap forming the locket, along with a wide base body that finishes in a point, a gray finish matching that used on the bayonet, the body marked "v.p." (the periods appearing as stars) above "38" beside the cap on the obverse, the cap marked with a large flaming bomb bearing "U.S." on the reverse, wide throat to house the bayonet and incorporating a roll bar with clips attached at either end that is designed to secure the bayonet in place, the scabbard measuring 285 mm in length. The blade on the bayonet is pristine, with some wear and contact marks evident in the gray finish on the crossguard, the black synthetic plates free of chipping, the scabbard exhibiting scattered contact marks overall, with rust spots present on the body in the area butting the cap. Very fine.
