Hardcover, grayish-brown cloth cover, entitled "Arms and Armor in Colonial America 1526-1783" by Harold L. Peterson, copyrighted by the author in 1956, published by Bramhall House of New York, a division of Clarkson N. Potter, Inc. by arrangement with The Stackpole Company, Library of Congress Catalog Card Number 56-11273. The book features detailed descriptions and is fully illustrated through the use of multiple photographs, line drawings and woodcut prints. It begins with a Preface, followed by a Table of Contents. The book is divided into two books, each with its own Introduction. Book I - The Age of Colonization and Exploration 1526-1688, with four chapters: 1 - Firearms; 2 - Ammunition and Equipment; 3 - Edged Weapons; ; 4 - Armor; dealing with all the colonies that later became part of the continental United States. Book II - The French Wars and the Revolution 1689-1783, with four chapters: 5 - Firearms; 6 - Ammunition and Equipment; 7 - Edged Weapons; 8 - Armor; concerning itself primarily with the English colonies along the Atlantic Seaboard and secondarily with the French, but not the Spanish colonies in Florida and the South West, as information was lacking. It concludes with an Appendix ("The Compleat Souldier"), a Bibliography and a four page Index. The book contains 366 pages, printed in black ink, on a smooth-finished white paper stock, measuring 220 mm (w) x 285 mm (h) x 25 mm (d). It exhibits spotting and light soiling on the cover and the sides of the pages, along with some weakness evident in the spine, one tear present on pages 137-138, in addition to missing its original dust jacket, the contents of the book unaffected.
