A 1915 Australian Dardanelles Commemorative Medal
Silvered bronze, obverse illustrating a left-facing soldier with rifle, as part of the Anzac beach landing, inscribed with the battle-cry "IMSHI YALLA" believed to mean "Go Away" which the soldiers had learned in the markets in Cairo, landing craft at the lower right, designer marked "I.C.W. SYDNEY" (I.G. Wright of Sydney), reverse inscribed "APRIL 25" with a rising sun with rays in the background in the centre, surrounded by the inscription "DARDANELLES 1915", 28 mm, original ribbon with pinback, light contact and surface wear, better than very fine. Footnote: The medal was struck by Amor and issued by the Arts & Crafts Association of Sydney, to commemorate the landing at Gallipoli on April 25, 1915.
