Instituted in 1990. In bronze, obverse illustrating a circular disk bearing a Tudor crown surrounded by the inscription "GALLIPOLI 1914-15", on an eight-pointed star base, maker marked "A.J.P." (A.J. Parkes of Brisbane) on the reverse, measuring 37.5 mm (w) x 46.2 mm (h) inclusive of its integral ring, original ribbon, extremely fine.
Footnote: This medal is an unofficial issue. It was originally approved by King George V but was never issued at the time. In April 1990, it was produced and presented unofficially by Mr. Ross Smith, a retired army warrant officer and Canberra businessman, to the 200 surviving Gallipoli veterans, to mark the 75th anniversary of the ill-fated landings on the Turkish coast. The remaining stars were sold to collectors.
