Queen's South Africa Medal, 1 Clasp - CAPE COLONY (307. S: Serjt: A.G. FARR. A.P.C.); King's South Africa Medal, 2 Clasps - SOUTH AFRICA 1901, SOUTH AFRICA 1902 (307 S. QR: - MR: - SERJT: A.G. FARR. A.P.C.); 1914-15 Star (MAJOR. A.G. FARR. PAY.CPS A.I.F.); British War and Victory Medals (LIEUT-COL.A.G. FARR A.I.F.); and Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, Edward VII (307 S.Q.M. SERJT: A.G. FARR. A.P.C.). Naming is officially engraved in italics on the QSA and officially impressed on the other five medals. BWM has been silvered, light contact, as a group, very fine. Accompanied by copies of his WWI Australian Service Records. Footnote: Albert George Farr was born on August 2, 1868 in Droitwich, Worcestershire, England. He saw service in the Boer War as a member of the Army Pay Corps with the British forces and was awarded the QSA and KSA for his service. Farr was later awarded the Army LSGCM for his continuing service. He emigrated to Australia, marrying Ellen Farr and made his home in Moonee Ponds, Victoria, Australia, employed as a clerk in the Department of Defence and was a staff paymaster. His educational qualifications included a First Class Army Certificate. When he enlisted for service with the Australian Military Forces on September 21, 1914, at the age of 46, he already had twenty-three years Imperial Service, eighteen of which with the Army Pay Corps. Farr was posted to the 1st Australian Army Pay Corps. The same day, he was promoted to the rank of Major. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, one year later, on September 21, 1915, later embarking Adelaide, South Australia, bound for the Egyptian theatre on April 11, 1916 on board the "Aeneas". After four months there, he left the Suez on "H.T. Borda", August 17, 1916, and was struck off strength that day, arriving in Melbourne on September 15, 1916. Farr was mentioned in despatches from Egypt by General Maxwell, as was documented in the London Gazette of June 23, 1916, "In continuation of my despatch of the 1st March, 1916, I have the honour to submit the names of officers and other ranks whom I desire to bring to your notice. ADMINISTRATION IN EGYPT. Lieutenant-Colonel ALBERT GEORGE FARR, Army Pay Corps." He received the 1914-15 Star, the BWM and the VM for his WWI service. In addition, he took possession of two oak leaves, one large and one small in September 1920, which are not included with this group. Farr passed away on July 8, 1937, a month shy of his seventieth birthday.
