(Mecidiye Nişanı). Instituted in 1852 by Sultan Abdulmejid I. Civil Division. An exquisite finely beaded seven-armed star in polished silver, featuring the symbol of the Star and Quarter Moon in each quadrant in silver, surmounted by a nicely enameled red symbol of the Star and Quarter Moon in Gold, with obverse centre also in Gold featuring an elegant central Arabic lettering surrounded by a delicate enameled red border with Arabic lettering, plain reverse, measuring 12.41 mm (w) x 18.37 mm (h - inclusive the Star and Quarter Moon suspension), light contact, minor wear on the obverse medallion, otherwise extremely fine.
Footnote: This Order was conferred upon Turkish citizens and foreigners in recognition of extraordinary civil and military services to the state. It was also awarded for military merit as well as civil merit.
