A 1915-1918 Issue Bremen Hanseatic Cross and 1897 Prussian Wilhelm Centennial Medal; A grouping of a 1915-1918 issue Bremen Hanseatic Cross (Hanseatenkreuz); a silvered bronze cross with red enameled arms; the obverse with a center medallion depicting a silvered Bremen coat of arms; the reverse inscribed in the centre with “Für Verdienst im Kriege 1914” (For Merit in War 1914); on loop for suspension; missing its second loop and ribbon; measuring 39.66 mm x 43.89 mm; weighing 18.1 grams Accomanied by a 1897 Prussian Kaiser Wilhelm Centennial Medal (Kaiser Wilhelm Erinnerungsmedaille-Zentenarmedaille); a gilt bronze medal; the obverse with a leftward facing bust of Kaiser Wilhelm, inscribed “Wilhelm der Grosse Deutscher Kaiser, Koenig von Preussen” (German - Wilhelm the Great German Kaiser, King of Prussia); the reverse inscribed “Zum andenken an den hundertsten Geburtstag des Grossen Kaisers Wilhelm I, 1797 - 22 Maerz 1897 (German - In remembrance of the one hundredth birthday of Wilhelm I), decorated with laurel and oak leaves, as well as the royal crown, orbis, and sword; measuring 39.46 mm in diameter; mounted to a period original ribbon - uniform removed, with some of the original threads still remaining; a fine grouping in overall better than very fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
