A fine example of a 1867-1918 issue Prussian Royal Order of the Crown Fourth Class (Königliche Kronen-Orden IV. Klasse); a gilt bronze cross pattée with stippled arms; the obverse with a circular central medallion depicting the Royal Prussian crown, surrounded by a light blue enameled ring, inscribed “Gott Mit Uns) (German- God with Us) in gilt lettering; the reverse with a circular central medallion depicting the royal cipher of King William I, surrounded by a light blue enameled ring, inscribed “Den 18 October 1861) (German - the 18th of October 1861); maker marked “G.S” for “Godet & Sohn” manufacture; measuring 43.28 mm x 43.27 mm; weighing 15.1 grams; on a double-loop suspension from its period original 37 mm wide ribbon; with light contact marks on the enamels and light discolouration of the gilt from age; in overall extremely fine condition.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
