Prussia, Kingdom. A General Merit Medal, II Class with Case, c.1900
(Allgemeines-Ehrenzeichen II. Klasse mit Etui). Instituted 18 January 1810 by King Friedrich Wilhelm III. (1810-1918). Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a central wreathed inscription of “VERDIENST UM DEN STAAT” (“SERVICE TO THE STATE”), the reverse with a central raised monogram of King Friedrich Wilhelm III, unmarked, measuring 39.40 mm in diameter, weighing 23.0 grams, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of heavy card stock with a faux black leather exterior, the interior with a white satin-type lid liner and a depressed black velvet medal bed, opening with a metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 70 mm (w) x 50 mm (l) x 18 mm (h), the spring catch no longer locks, in overall better than very fine condition.
