(Hausorden von Hohenzollern, Ritterkreuz). Instituted 5 December 1841 by Prince Konstantin of Hohehzollern-Hechingen and Prince Karl Anton of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. (1924-1935 Issue). In silver gilt consisting of a Ruppert Cross with black and white enameled arms, the quadrants of the cross joined by green enameled laurel and oak leaf branches, the obverse with a central black enameled Hohenzollern eagle on a white enameled background, surrounded by a blue enameled ring with gilt inscription of “VOM FELS ZUM MEER” (“FROM THE CLIFFS TO THE SEA”), with green enameled laurel branches at the bottom, the reverse with a white enameled medallion bearing a gilt monogram of Friedrich Wilhelm IV, surrounded by a blue enameled ring with gilt inscription of “DEN 18 JANUAR 1851”, with green enameled laurel and oak leaf branches at the bottom, the twelve o’clock arm with a hollow gilt crown suspension connecting to a period original ribbon, unmarked but with the characteristics of manufacture by J. Godet & Sohn, Berlin, measuring 39.45 mm (w) x 79.82 mm (h), weighing 22.7 grams (inclusive of ribbon), some flecking of enamels with a small crack on the obverse twelve o’clock arm, otherwise in near extremely fine condition.
Footnote: Kaiser Wilhelm II awarded the Knight’s Cross of the House Order of Hohenzollern 53 times between 1924 and 1935, while in exile at his estate of Huis Doorn in The Netherlands. All awards were manufactured by the firm of J. Godet & Sohn, Berlin.
