A round silver medal; the obverse depicting the rightward facing bust of Kaiser Wilhelm, circumscribed by his name and title; the reverse depicting a homing pigeon in flight; circumscribed “FÜR VERDIENSTE UM DAS MILITAIR-BRIEFTAUBENWESEN” (German - For Merit in Wartime Homing Pigeon Training); measuring 41.13 mm in diameter; weighing 32.5 grams; in overall very fine condition.
Footnote: Pigeons were used during the First and Second War to convey messages to and from the front. Their success rate was at 95%. Several pigeons were awarded high military honours for their service.
