A complete and extremely well-preserved two-volume set of John Angolia’s “The HJ”. Each book is a first edition published in 1991 by R. James Bender Publishing of San Jose, California. The first volume opens with a bookplate featuring Angolia’s handwritten signature and dedication, with a number of 421 of 500 first edition copies printed. It features 304 paginated pages with detailed information on HJ uniforms, insignia, headgear, and edged weapons, supplemented by a large number of black-and-white photographs and illustrations. This information is presented chronologically to demonstrate the evolution in regulations of the aforementioned over time. The second volume similarly opens with a bookplate featuring Angolia’s handwritten signature and dedication, and is numbered 108 of 500. It features 301 paginated pages with on the uniforms, insignia, and accoutrements of HJ peripheral and auxiliary units, as well as flags and badges. Both books measure 160 mm (w) x 235 mm (h). Demonstrating only minimal signs of wear, these seminal HJ reference texts are in an overall extremely fine condition.
