From the “English Men of Action” series, this is a very well-preserved edition of “Havelock”, by Archibald Forbes. It is constructed of a heavy card stock binding with a faux red leather exterior liner. The interior content consists of 223 white paper pages featuring a detailed biography of Major General Sir Henry Havelock, a noted commander of British campaigns in south Asia during the 19th century, particularly noted for his service in the Indian Rebellion of 1857. It features a fold-out map of Lucknow showing the strategic situation during the latter campaign. The book was published in 1890 and reprinted in 1897 by Macmillan and Co., Limited, of London. It measures 130 mm (w) x 195 mm (h). Some ink staining and material fatigue is visible, along with handwriting and underlining of the interior contents. It is in an overall very fine condition.
