Romania, Kingdom. An Administrative Official's Bicorn, c.1935
Reinforced frame with a black wool exterior, both sides on the exterior and the undersides at either end trimmed in a 25 mm wide continuous strip in fine gold-coloured bullion wire, two overlapping strips in blackened copper wire sewn in place on the right side and terminating with a 21 mm brass button displaying the crowned Romanian coat-of-arms, the strips overlying a ribbed rosette in red, yellow and blue cloth, seventeen rows of tightly-wound strands of gold-coloured bullion wire fringe sewn in place at both ends on the upper. Inside with a white leather sweat band which pinned in place by a brass pin at the rear seam, the sidewalls and dome lined in daffodil yellow satin, stamped in black ink "9639" on the left side of the sweatband and on the right side of the sidewall. It measures 170 mm (w) x 420 mm (l) x 140 (h), exhibiting soiling on the sweatband and in the dome from active use, the exterior displaying a nice texture in the black wool exterior and is free of mothing, intact stitching throughout, near extremely fine.
