Grand Cross Badge: in silver gilt with red and white enamels, gilt cypher of Carol I on the obverse centrepiece, hallmarked with a crown above an "L" (Muntenia) city mark and bearing two ticks (.800 silver) within a swelled triangular frame, number stamped "983-34", marked in Romanian "ARG" (argint = silver) and maker marked "RESCH", measuring 55.3 mm (w) x 55.3 mm (h), crazing and chipping evident in the white enamels on the arms at 6 and 9 o'clock on both sides, the badge and its bow-tied ribbon having separated from its original full-length sash that incorporates a decorative moiré pattern; and Breast Star: insignia in silver gilt with red and white enamels, silvered cypher of Carol I on the centrepiece, hallmarked with a crown above an "L" (Muntenia) city mark with two ticks (.800 silver) within a swelled triangular frame, number stamped "983-34" and marked in Romanian "ARG" (argint = silver) on the pin, maker marked "JOSEPH RESCH FILS BUCHAREST" on the reverse cartouche, measuring 74.5 mm (w) x 75 mm (h), vertical pinback, intact enamels. Better than very fine and near extremely fine, respectively.
Footnote: The Order of the Crown of Romania is a chivalric order established on March 14, 1881 by King Carol I of Romania, to commemorate the establishment of the Kingdom of Romania. It was awarded as a state order until the end of the Romanian monarchy in 1947 and was revived on December 30, 2011 as a dynastic order. The order had five classes: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight.
