Romania, Republic. A Photo Album Gifted to Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej upon his 60th Birthday

A unique photo album having been custom crafted for presentation on the Occasion of Gheorghiu-Dej's 60th Birthday. Featuring a two-piece constructed wooden front cover, the top panel with an engraved image representing various industries within an oval, surrounded by a motif incorporating various shapes and icons, flanked by a hammer and sickle insignia on either side, surmounted by a the Romanian People's Republic coat-of-arms framed by a half-wreath of laurel leaves, flanked by flags bearing the coat-of-arms on either side, the bottom panel with an ornate engraved border, arched wooden spine, metal hinged, the wooden back cover with a maroon felt pad, containing thirty-nine pages on a steel-blue light card stock, with text in white ink, the lead page entitled "Scumpe tovarășe Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej" (Dear Comrade Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej), the second page with its photograph removed, each of the last thirty-seven pages with a 172 mm x 232 mm black and white photograph, each photo with a gloss finish, illustrating various industries and pursuits in the Romanian People's Republic, each of the pages with a vellum insert, measuring 290 mm x 450 mm x 58 mm, the front cover separated from the hinge, with eight of the eleven original screws accompanying the album, extremely fine.
