Russia, Imperial. A Commemorative Medal for the Treaty of Nystad

Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse bearing a central depiction of Noah’s Ark at sea, situated below a dove symbolizing peace, in turn surrounded by a rainbow linking Stockholm and St. Petersburg, above a Russian Cyrillic inscription praising the peace now linking Sweden and Russia in 1721, the reverse bearing a Cyrillic inscription dedicated to Tsar Peter I (“the Great”) for leading Russia to a victorious outcome in the Great Northern War of 1700-1721, unmarked, measuring 60 mm in diameter, with moderate surface oxidation and loss of finish evident throughout, in very fine condition.
