Russia, Imperial. An Order of Saint Anne, I Class Star, by Keibel, c.1900
(Звезда Орден Святой Анны). Instituted 1735. Civil Division. Constructed of silver with enamels, consisting of an eight-pointed radiant star with obverse pebbling, with a central silver medallion bearing a stylized red enamelled Geneva Cross, within a ring of red enamels bearing a raised silver inscription of “AMAN. JUST. PIET. FID.” for “AMANTIBUS JUSTITIAM, PIETATEM, FIDEM” (“TO THOSE WHO LOVE JUSTICE, PIETY, and FIDELITY”), with a raised silver crown flanked by cherubs, in turn within a ribbed silver ring, the reverse with a barrel hinge and narrow banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, marked with an “84” zolotnik mark for 875 silver content, a maker’s mark of “KEIBEL”, and the symbol of the city of St. Petersburg, with an additional mark of “KEIBEL” on the reverse of the pinback, measuring 88.68 mm (w) x 87.87 mm (h), weighing 49.7 grams, the silver with an age-appropriate patina, centre cross slightly rotated, otherwise in overall near extremely fine condition.
