Russia, Soviet Union. A Rare Order of Lenin, Type V in Gold, with Case and Award Documents to Lev Semenovich Badriev
(Орден Ленина) A rare and exquisite example of the Order of Lenin, Type 5 (variation 1), constructed of 23K Gold with platinum and multi-coloured enamels, the obverse consisting of a circular wheat stalk wreath, joined together at the bottom by a red enameled hammer and sickle, flanked on the right by a red enameled five-pointed star and on the left by a banner flag similarly executed in red enamel and bearing a gilt inscription of “ЛЕНИН” (“LENIN”), surrounding a central dark grey enameled medallion overlaid by a leftward-facing platinum profile of Vladimir Lenin, the reverse bearing three rivets securing the image of Lenin in place, bearing a stamped serial number of “171214” and raised mark of “МОНЕТНЫЙ ДВОР” indicating official manufacture by the Soviet Mint, topped by an integral loop connecting to a suspension ring descending from a pentagonal magnetic metal plate with a period original ribbon and horizontal pinback, measuring 38.56 mm (w) x 43.38 mm (h), weighing 46.0 grams (inclusive of backplate and ribbon), in extremely fine condition; accompanied by its matching award booklet, constructed of a card stock binding with a faux maroon leather exterior liner, the cover bearing gilt embossments, the interior retaining all original pages featuring stamped and handwritten entries, indicating the award and booklet were named to “ЛЕВ СЕМЕНОВИЧ БАДРИЕВ” (“LEV SEMENOVICH BADRIEV”), with a matching serial number and date of 1 July 1951, issued without a photo, measuring 76 mm (w) x 105 mm (h), in extremely fine condition; accompanied by a period presentation case, constructed of a heavy card stock frame with a red canvas exterior liner, the bed retaining a mis-matched award document for a Medal for Valiant Labour in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945, issued in 1946, with and additional white card stock box, demonstrating only minor and age-appropriate material fatigue evident, in very fine condition.
