Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Duchy. An Honour Badge for Homeland Service, c.1918
(Ehrenzeichen für Heimatverdienst). Instituted 19 July 1918 by Duke Carl Eduard. (1918-1919 issue). Constructed of silvered bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse with a rightward-facing profile of Duke Carl Eduard, circumscribed by name and title, topped by a royal crown, the reverse with a Saxe-Coburg and Gotha coat of arms, topped by an inscription of “FUER VERDIENST” (“FOR MERIT”), unmarked, measuring 31.35 mm (w) x 49.82 mm (h), weighing 19.9 grams (inclusive of ribbon), in near extremely fine condition.
