Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, Duchy. A Medal for Volunteers of the German 5th Corps, c.1814
(Medaille für die Freiwilligen des V. Deutschen) Instituted 21 June 1814. A circular medal constructed of iron, the obverse centre bears seven lances tied together with an oak leaf wreath and ribbons, circumscribed with “Einigkeit macht stark Vaterlandsliebe unüberwindlich” (Together we are stronger Patriotism insurmountable), the reverse bears the inscription “Den Freiwilligen Vaterland Verteidigern des Fünften deutschen Armeekorps Vouihrem Kommandirenden General E. H. zu S. 1814” (The Volunteer Fatherland Defenders of the Fifth German Army Corps From her Commander General E. H. to S. 1814), measuring 39.47 mm (w) x 43.09 mm (h), weighing 12.6 g, on replacement ribbon, very fine.
