Saxony, Kingdom. An Albert Order Cross with Swords

(Albrechtsorden Kreuz mit Schwertern). Instituted 31 December 1850 by King Friedrich August II. (1911-1918 issue). Constructed of a silvered metal alloy, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Latin Cross with ribbed arms and crossed swords piercing the centre, the obverse bearing a central rightward-facing profile of Duke Albert III, circumscribed by an inscription of “ALBERTUS ANIMOSUS” (“ALBERT THE VALIANT”), the reverse bearing a central Saxon coat of arms, surrounded by arabesques and an institution date of “1850”, unmarked, measuring 33.92 mm (w) x 42.26 mm (h), weighing 19.4 grams (inclusive of ribbon), in extremely fine condition.
