(Medalla al Ejército Aliado contra el Gobierno de Paraguay). Instituted in 1889. 1889-1890 issue. A rounded medal constructed of silver, with an engraved obverse depicting an Argentinian coat of arms surrounded by the inscription REPUBLICA ARGENTINA AL EJERCITO ALIADO EN OPERACIONES CONTRA EL GOBIERNO DEL PARAGUAY (Republic of Argentina to the Allied Army Operating against the Government of Paraguay), reverse featuring an engraved Argentinian Sun circumscribed by AL VALOR Y LA CONSTANCIA LA NACION AGRADECIDA (For Courage and Constancy, the Nation Gratefully), measuring 30.21 mm (w) x 34.37mm (h - inclusive integral ball), with wear on the rim and toned silver, suspended by replaced ribbon, fine.
Footnote: The Medal for Argentine Allies at the Paraguayan War (Medalla al Ejército Aliado contra el Gobierno de Paraguay) was instituted on August 20, 1889 as part of a protocol signed by the three allied countries, Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay. It was awarded to Brazilian and Uruguayan military forces who fought alongside of Argentina against Paraguay at the War of the Triple Alliance (1864-1870).
