Argentina, Republic. An M1891 Mauser Rifle Bayonet
This bayonet features a 400 mm long steel blade, magnetic, with a semi-sharp blade and a very sharp tip, the fuller running almost the full length of the bayonet on both sides, marked with the Argentine Republic coat-of-arms surmounted by the arched inscription in Spanish "MODELO ARGENTINO 1891" (Argentine Model 1891) on the obverse ricasso, maker marked "WEYERSBERG KIRSCHBAUM & Co SOLINGEN" on the reverse ricasso, the spine proof marked with a star above an "A". The blade is embedded into the heavy steel crossguard that is designed with a ring at one end for placement upon the barrel of a rifle, the other end with a quillon, steel plates with a multi-ribbed grip embedded onto either side of the handle and held in place via two large rivets, inspection marked with an "M" within a circular border beside the crossguard on both sides, the steel pommel with knob and mortise slot to receive the rifle, stamped "W4415" beside the slot, the bayonet measuring 522 mm in length overall. The blade exhibits horizontal scratches and surface wear overall, the crossguard and handle with contact marks, the pommel with surface rust, without scabbard. Near fine.
