Argentina, Republic. An M1909 Mauser Rifle Bayonet
This bayonet features a 395 mm long steel blade, magnetic, with a semi-sharp blade and a dull tip, the fuller running almost the full length of the bayonet on both sides, marked with the Argentine Republic coat-of-arms surmounted by the arched inscription in Spanish "MODELO ARGENTINO 1909" (Argentine Model 1909) and stamped with the code "A1220" on the obverse ricasso, maker marked "WEYERSBERG KIRSCHBAUM & Co SOLINGEN" on the reverse ricasso, the spine proof marked with a star above an "A". The blade is embedded into the heavy steel crossguard that is designed with a ring at one end for placement upon the barrel of a rifle, the other end with a large quillon that is stamped with a "G" on the obverse, with wooden plates embedded onto either side of the handle and held in place via two large rivets, the steel pommel with knob and slotted to receive the rifle, the reverse of the pommel stamped with "RA" within an oval border, the bayonet measuring 527 mm in length overall. The bayonet is housed in its black-finished magnetic metal steel scabbard, the throat secured in place by a single screw, the end point finished in a ball finial, the locket stamped with an "x" inside a "D" above a crosshair on the obverse, incorporating a stud on the reverse and stamped "A1220", matching the mark on the obverse ricasso on the bayonet, the scabbard measuring 412 mm in length. The blade exhibits light scratches overall, common to extraction and return to the scabbard, the bayonet with contact marks and moderate surface wear present on the steel portions, the scabbard with a few indentations along with contact marks and wear present on the black finish. Fine.
