A ten-pointed silver star with ball finials, featuring three floriate rays in each quadrant, obverse centre with an engraved head of Bernardo O'Higgins facing right within a border inscribed BERNARDO O’HIGGINS - CHILE, plain reverse, measuring 45.09 mm (w) x 50.79 mm (h - inclusive of integral ring), presenting toned silver, suspended by original ribbon with horizontal pinback hanger, very good.
Footnote: The Order of Bernardo O'Higgins was created in 1956 as an adjunct to the Order of Merit. It was established as an Order in 1965 and named after one of the founders of the Chilean state, general Bernardo O'Higgins, who was the leader of the struggle for independence of the Spanish colonies 1810 to 1826. Currently, it is the highest civilian honor awarded to non-Chilean citizens for achievements in the field of arts, sciences, education, industry, trade, humanitarian and social cooperation.
