Three-piece construction, Republic of Ecuador coat-of-arms insignia in silver gilt, mounted to a base with twelve emanating rays in silver with red and green enamels, unmarked, measuring 56 mm (w) x 87 mm (h) inclusive of its wreath suspension, intact enamels, scattered gilt wear evident on the insignia, replacement incorrect ribbon, near extremely fine.
Footnote: The National Order of Merit was instituted on October 8, 1821 and is awarded for extraordinary achievements rendered to the nation, civil or military, in six grades: Collar, Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight.
