Guatemala. A Military Merit Cross, II Class, c.1950
(Cruz al Merito Militar). Instituted October 1947. A five-armed medallion with pebbled arm faces, a wreath lay between the arms, the obverse centre bears a white enamel and silver Guatemalan coat of arms encompassed by a blue enamel border with the inscription “MERITO MILITAR II CLASE” (MILITARY MERIT II CLASS), the reverse is plain, attached to the top of the medal is a pair of upwards facing crossed swords on an integral loop, measuring 48.62 mm (w) x 62.05 mm (h), weighing 36.7 g, on a red ribbon with centre white stripe attached to ribbon bar with horizontal pinback, very fine.
