Four-piece construction, insignia in bronze gilt with red, white, blue and green enamels, the insignia with six inlaid glass stones, mounted to a base in bronze gilt incorporating a cross in white enamels with silvered trim on its edges, emanating rays between each arm of the cross, unmarked, measuring 80.5 mm (w) x 80.5 mm (h), vertical pinback, intact enamels, extremely fine.
Footnote: The Order of Merit of the National Police of Peru was instituted in 1990, as a replacement for three earlier orders (the Order of Merit of the Peruvian Civil Guard, the Order of Merit of the Investigative Police of Peru, the Order of Merit of the Republican Guard of Peru). It is awarded to the members of the National Police of Peru for meritorious service. In extraordinary cases, the order may be bestowed on members of the armed forces, individuals, or even national and foreign institutions. It is awarded in five grades: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight.
