In 18K Gold (tested), a gorgeous four point Maltese cross with genuine old cut diamonds as ball finials (totaling approximately 1.25 carats in weight), each arm is set with five synthetic rubies, a cluster of smooth rays in each quadrant, the obverse medallion features a handpainted scene of two crowned towers with a banner inscribed PLUS ULTRA with a sun setting in the background, surrounded by a green enamelled wreath with a white banner inscribed A LA LEALTAD ACRISOLADA POR ISABEL LA CATOLICA, with crowned F7 cypher at 12 o’clock, the reverse with a thin vertical pin flanked by dual stays, measures 78.58mm (w) x 79.75mm (h), weighs 50.6 grams, unmarked, but of beautiful craftsmanship, enamels intact, a rare decoration in near mint condition.
Accompanied by a miniature breast star in Gold and enamels, buttonhole style ring on the reverse, measures 21.45mm (w) x 21.60mm (h), weighs 4.4 grams, enamels intact, in extremely fine condition.
Contained in a Spanish case, with a dark red leatherette exterior, the interior with a crème coloured silk lid with a rich red velvet medal bed in the base with two tabs to secure decorations, measures 145mm (w) x 130mm (l) x 40mm (d), hinge and clasp functional, not made for the Order of Isabella the Catholic, remains in extremely fine condition.
