Spain, Uruguay. A Medal Commemorating the Flight of Plus Ultra from Spain to Uruguay 1926
In bronze gilt, obverse illustrating Christopher Columbus' ships, the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria crossing the Atlantic Ocean, with the date "1492" on a scroll below, framed branches of laurel leaves on either side, inscribed "GLORIA A ESPAÑA" (Glory to Spain) above and "REPÚBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY" (Eastern Republic of Uruguay) below, reverse illustrating the Plus Ultra flying boat in flight over the Atlantic Ocean, with a sunrise and mountain in the background, engraver marked "TAMMARO", with the date "1926" on a scroll below, framed branches of laurel leaves on either side, inscribed "PLUS-ULTRA" (Plus Ultra) above and "PRIMER VUELO A HISPANO-AMÉRICA" (First Flight to Hispano-America) below, measuring 32.2 mm in diameter, silvered residue evident on the obverse, near extremely fine.
